Profile: |
After returning to Sri Lanka in 1994, he has been involved in the local Internet Initiative which secured connectivity to the inter-university LEARN network and to Sri Lanka as a whole in 1996. In the area of Computational Linguistics, he supervised many undergraduate projects in Sinhala and Tamil languages. After a sabbatical spent at INRIA, France and CMU, Pittsburgh, USA he has concentrated on data-driven approaches to Computational Linguistics. The PAN Localization project has helped the UCSC to set up a Language Technology Research Lab which is already involved in many sub-projects. |
